HP's updated its 17-inch EliteBook mobile workstation with Intel Core i5 and i7 processors; three 1GB graphics card options; bear for up to 16GB of 1,333MHz DDR3 memory; an option for a 256GB SSD; and mobile broadband with GPS for asset tracking, mapping, or navigation. Returning is the 17-inch LED-backlit WUXGA+ antiglare display with HP DreamColor technology for professional color reproduction.
The component offerings should allow for some serious desktop-like performance while still being mobile. The workstation measures 1.4 inches high by 15.6 inches wide by 11.2 inches deep and its weight starts at 7.8 pounds. That's not small by any means, but certainly something that can be traveled with if need be.The 8740w grants itself a valuable desktop surface of 0.11 m2, with a width of almost 40 centimeters and a depth of about 28.5 centimeters. In return, it also harbors extremely strong hardware. Considering this, the nevertheless very slim base unit is almost amazing.
In addition to an even more brilliant display, the 874w bumps up its processor options in a predictable way, offering Core i5 and i7 CPUs. Users can choose graphics by either ATI or Nvidia, but in either case 1GB of dedicated video memory comes standard. You can also opt for either a 256GB solid-state drive or a 7,200 rpm drive ranging in size from 250GB to 500GB. It can accept up to 16GB of RAM. Among its ports are four USB ports, two of which are USB 3.0. The largest battery option is an 8-cell, but with a starting weight of 7.8 pounds, we’re guessing you’re not going to want to travel far with it.
